Fotios Spyropoulos holds a PhD in Criminal Law and Criminology from the Law School of University of Athens. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of West Attica performing an H.F.R.I (Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation) project on the legal treatment of fake news. He also teaches at the University of Western Attica and the Fire Academy of Greece as a Professor of Law.
He has been a Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Fire Academy. He has collaborated as a Professor at undergraduate and postgraduate level with the University of West Attica and the Technological Institute (TEI) of Western Greece and has given dozens of lectures in Greece as well as to foreign universities as a Visiting Professor or Researcher (e.g. HdM University in Stuttgart, Germany, ADA University of Azerbaijan). He has also delivered lectures to scientific conferences in Greece and abroad, he has published or edited the publication of four scientific books and has written over 40 scientific articles in scientific journals.
Dr. Fotios Spyropoulos has been representative of Greece to the European Consultative Consumers Group (ECCG) of the European Commission, he has participated in drafting committees and has collaborated with civil society organizations at national and supranational level such as Transparency International as a scientific advisor for the evaluation of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council in 2014, as a legal advisor for the Greek Consumers’ Institute (IN.KA) and more.
He prepared a thesis on the complex issue of the legal treatment of hacking under the supervision of Professor Nestoras Kourakis and for which he was awarded the “Heracleitus II” scholarship. He was the first among the candidates awarded with the same scholarship (grade: 10,00/10,00). His dissertation was approved by the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens and was rated as excellent by all accounts.
He studied Law in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He did postgraduate studies in Criminal Law and Procedure (2008-2010) and in Criminology (2010-2012, with honours) at the same university. He has attended legal courses and courses related to political science, sociology, criminology and forensics at the University of Liege (Belgium). In addition, he completed his studies and received a bachelor’s degree from the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus.
Dr. Fotios Spyropoulos is a member of several scientific unions (e.g. Hellenic Criminal bar Association). He is founding member, member of the Board and Vice President of the Crime Study Center which was founded in 2015. Finally, he practices law as a lawyer before the Supreme Court and managing partner of “Spyropoulos Law Firm” and has represented his clients in some of the most important trials of the last decade. He is admitted in Athens Bar Association and also being a financial advisor, he is a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece.
